[Style] Velvet Gloves Gentleman’s Boxing - Punch The Stereotype

Now, blend the image of boxing with a gay guy, can u manage it?

When it comes to gay guys, what the image do u have of them?
Party animals? Live with fashion and alcohol? Girly? Love screaming in the pitch which can broke the glass while getting exciting?

If u have the image above, congrats, u r a stereotypical person.

I’m so into the thing can break the mirror ceiling of stereotype. In Aug issue, Out mag puts “Hand In Glove” as one of editorials title with the photos of boxers. It is rare to see boxers land on editorial in gay magazine (except the need of eye-candy), while it intrigues me to read.

It’s an editorial about ALL-GAY boxing class.

Velvet Gloves Gentleman’s Boxing, New York’s first all-gay boxing class,  which gets its pupils together at the health club Clay bimonthly. This class is sparring with stereotypes and offering gay men new ways to get fit, have fun and possibly find a husband, according to Huff Post.

The lesson focuses equally on conditioning, technique, mitt work, and a social experience. Therefore, it not only provides you with one hour and thirty minutes of hit conditioning, technique, footwork, and partnering, but some single malt Scotch, homemade protein bars, a complimentary massage, or something else gentlemanly after class.

The most important is, you will NOT get punch or bruise in the face.

Gay do and can do boxing like straight man, or, I should rephrase it as, boxing doesn’t particularly belong to heterosexual man.

It is a sport belongs to everyone.

Some people perceive gay as female-ish man, which is fatally wrong. Like the Martin from web-series “He is with me” said : Don’t treat me like a princess or queen, I am a gay.  Yep, Gay is just one species of man, as same as other species such as hairy man, tall man, fit man to name a few.

Thus, U won’t have a hard time blending the image of boxing with gay guy.

Now, don’t u dare take a gay as a weak or weaponless man? As Francisco Liuzzi, one of the founder and coacher (for the record, most coachers are straight allies) of Velvet Gloves Gentleman’s Boxing, saying “Things like big chests and big shoulders and big biceps don’t mean you punch any harder than skinny guys.”

If I were in New York, I would love to take some lessons there.

Velvet Gloves Gentleman’s Boxing's official site is here, if u want to take a visit.
