[Series] Stop "Looking"

There are two huge news hitting social media today, both are heartbroken. One is Zayn Malik officially leaves one direction, which makes numerous girl cry. Another is HBO cancels 'Looking', which makes gay men unbelievable.

But I am not One Direction’s fans (I even don’t know it’s member), so the news about Looking is shock to me.

Rating is everything
According to Huffpost, HBO made a decision to chop the Looking following two seasons of low ratings. Sunday's season finale pulled in a paltry 298,000 viewers, a steep dip from the 425,000 people who tuned in for last year's closer.

At TV business, nothing important but RATING, right?

Even though it’s an aesthetic and lovely gay series, low rating is still the pistol point. Since it is a business, not a charity, low rating means it can’t make money and can’t make money means it will drag the avenue and this is the business man definitely not want to see. So, HBO won’t give Looking the third chance (third season as well) and chop it immediately.

I do understand it’s a business but I still want to thank HBO give Looking a chance to be on air and it does fills the gap that TV program lacks of gay series.

The reason why Looking get such low rating, in my opinion, the audience’s appetite is the crucial part.

Everyone loves blood
To be honest, at the beginning, the pot of Looking did drag its feet. It was too slow, everything seems was in slow motion, moreover, no one wants to see romantic story currently, especially the love story among the three gay friends, who cares? ( the sex and city’s may day was gone)

The only thing audience cares about is the sex scene. Yep, sex can sells a lot of thing and can save ur rating. Like the famous gay series QAF did and it survived for 5 seasons. The more bloody it is, the more rating it earns.

Nobody cares about how deep meaning the line is in Looking (but they care about how deep is Patrick) or what these three gay friends stand for. They want incredible thing happened. So, if they start f**king or killing each other like Game of thrones did, I bet, the rating will skyrocket, and HBO will let it do more 5 seasons.

However, I think it’s a good choice to make a "Looking" movie in lieu of renewing the show, It is more suitable in big screen than in small screen and I believe Andrew Haigh definitely can produce another big gay film.
